Looking for a fun character dining experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? We recently had dinner at Tusker House and were pleasantly surprised by the food, character interactions, and overall experience.
Here’s what you can expect and whether we think it’s worth the price for families.

The Bottom Line
Tusker House is one of our favorite Disney character buffet experiences. Between the African-inspired food, beautifully themed restaurant, and character interactions with Mickey and friends, there’s a lot to enjoy.
We booked the last dinner reservation at 6 PM and found it to be a great way to end our Animal Kingdom day.
What We Liked
The food: This was probably one of the best-tasting and most diverse buffets we’ve experienced at Disney. There was a great selection of African-inspired dishes, familiar kid-friendly options, and plenty of desserts.

Character interactions: We met Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy in their safari outfits. Since we had one of the last reservations, we felt we had more character time than we’ve experienced at other character meals. The characters also participate in a fun dance throughout the restaurant.

The theming: The restaurant has a beautiful, adventurous atmosphere that fits perfectly with Animal Kingdom.
Late dinner reservation: By the time we finished dinner, the park had closed. We were able to walk through Animal Kingdom with very few crowds, which was a peaceful way to end the day.
What We Didn’t Love
The biggest drawback is the price. Character dining is already expensive, and Tusker House is a significant meal expense for a family. While we really enjoyed the food and experience, it’s something to budget for.
Pricing
Tusker House offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Breakfast: $52 per adult and $35 per child (ages 3β9).
- Lunch and Dinner: $64 per adult and $42 per child (ages 3β9).
- Children under 3: Free.
Disney Visa discounts are accepted.
For our family of four, with two paying adults, one paying child, and one child dining free, we paid approximately $164 for dinner after our Disney Visa discount. This did not include gratuity.
Our Tips
- Make reservations in advance, especially during busy travel seasons.
- Consider booking a later dinner reservation if you want to maximize your park time.
- Come hungry! There are plenty of dishes and desserts to try.
- Allow approximately 60β90 minutes for the full dining experience.
Who Is Tusker House Best For?
Tusker House is a great choice for families who enjoy character dining but want something a little different from the traditional Disney buffet.
It’s especially appealing if you enjoy trying different foods, want to meet Mickey and friends in their safari outfits, or are looking for a memorable dining experience at Animal Kingdom.
CastleHoppers Verdict

We would absolutely recommend Tusker House for families visiting Animal Kingdom. The food was a standout, the character interactions were fun, and the restaurant’s theming made the experience feel unique.
It’s not the cheapest character meal, but we felt it was worth the splurge and would happily return!
